Trend in Comfy: The Pajama Lounge
The dreamiest trend in home comfort is
catching on, as families add a second living room upstairs, or carve out space
in a single-story home, to create a comfy-cozy pajama lounge—the coolest place
to hang out at home.
The concept is part of a growing trend to make
room for family relaxation away from high traffic areas of the home, reports
Lauren Smith, a home editor for House Beautiful and Good Housekeeping. It’s the
perfect place to gather as a family after rolling out of bed in pajamas—or for
the kids to hang out, with or without their friends, when the grown-ups are
entertaining guests in more formal areas of the house.
Think comfy, low seating (include a couple of
aptly placed bean bags) and lots of pillows, poufs and cozy throws to bundle up
in on cold winter days or nights, suggests interior designer Lisa McDennon of
Laguna Beach, Calif.
As space allows, add some shelving for books
and games, a table for a puzzle board or family games and maybe even a
microwave oven with a handy supply of popcorn.
A big screen TV and all the electronic
companion pieces are optional, designers say. Although some would say they are
a necessary anchor to any self-respecting pajama lounge. The important
consideration when furnishing your own pajama lounge, McDennon said, is filling
it with the comforts and wishes of your own family in mind.
